HEY CLEVELANDERS: During my lunch break today, I found myself checking out Metromix Cleveland‘s “C-town Breakdown” for some inspiration for my weekend plans. What I discovered: Clevelanders REALLY like their beer at the end of July.
My first piece of evidence: Ingenuity Festival’s Speakeasy 2.0 on Friday, July 23rd.
As we all know, the definition of a speakeasy is “a place for the illegal sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks, as during Prohibition in the United States” (thanks Answers.com). The cool thing about this event (along with the two drink tickets): guests get to roam around the catacomb spaces within Detroit Superior Bridge, all while getting their drink and dance on.
Second up: the Cleveland Scene Alefest taking place on Saturday the 24th down in Tremont in Lincoln Park.
How do you go wrong with an event that features over 100 selections of beer to sample in one afternoon?
My last piece of evidence: the Burning River Fest 2010 taking place July 24 & 25 has one very special beer consumer’s delight: Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Christmas Ale. Note the date of Sunday: It is Christmas in July after all!
Come on now: all Clevelanders have at least ONE story on how Christmas Ale got them toasted and toasty one December evening. Ask my brother Drew about his favorite Christmas Ale hangover next time you see him.
Usually, I tend to stick with a few of the beers featured in this list of Best Light Beers from Women’s Health Magazine: I do love me a good Sam Adams Light (#noshame). But for this beer filled weekend, I foresee myself partaking in some pale ale consumption by the end of this evening.
Are you a beer drinker? What’s your go-to beer when it comes to kick back and relax?
