See that handsome guy on the left:
That would be my dad. Today is his 52 birthday. Happy birthday Dad!
Like any good daughter, I hit up the best bakery near my house… and my gym: Michael Angelo’s Bakery in Broadview Heights.
Since accidentally discovering them on the search for my wedding cake provider, I have used them religiously for personal and professional functions since 2005.
I picked up an individual version of a cassata cake for my dad and delivered it to him this morning on my way into work. From the wiki page: Cassata consists of round sponge cake moistened with fruit juices or liqueur and layered with ricotta cheese, candied peel, and a chocolate or vanilla filling similar to cannoli cream. It is covered with a shell of marzipan, pink and green pastel colored icing, and decorative designs. The cassata is finally topped with candied fruit depicting cherries and slices of citrus fruit characteristic of Sicily.
Check out all the great stuff Michael Angelo’s can do (the parfait I picked up for my dad is on the bottom of page 50 of the PDF behind the link). What’s your favorite type of cake? I’m a German chocolate girl myself… although I won’t turn down a mean piece of coconut cake either!
