TODAY’S POINT OF BALANCE: You better be celebrating National Pancake Day! I completely forgot this morning, although the egg mess I made for breakfast did turn out more pancake-y in form than omelette or scramble…
Head to IHOP today from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm: they are giving away free short stacks of their famous buttermilk pancakes to hungry customers. In return, eaters are invited to make donations to support their local children’s hospitals through Children’s Miracle Network – a cause dear to my heart as a Phi Mu alum!
I still haven’t recovered from the Pancake Fiasco of 2009. Let me explain:
Have you seen the episode of Man v. Food where Adam goes to Hawaii and attempts to eat the three INSANELY LARGE pancakes at MAC 24-7?
Last year on our trip to Wakaki, my mom and I heard about these “large” pancakes that could “feed a family” on their own. So before our planned hike for the day, we went to MAC 24-7 at Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio and ordered the pineapple, coconut and macadamia nut mac daddy pancakes. No wonder the waiter laughed at us when we asked if it would be enough for the two of us:
The man was NOT KIDDING when he said these things were the size of manhole covers! They have to use a pizza pie flipper to flip these things on the griddle! My mom and I did our best, but only managed to finish about 1/6 of the pancake… and then hiked up a mountain.
Let’s just say I spent the rest of the day horizontally. There was no farewell mai tai in my future, just Pepto-Bismol and ginger ale.
Stick with IHOP’s small stack :: you’ll be much happier than I on that fateful February day.
