DON’T FORGET: You have until noon TODAY to enter to win some great prizes from Stove Monkeys. Just comment on the post here!
HEY CLEVELANDERS: I have to give a big thank you to the Great Big Home & Garden Expo at the IX Center. Sure, we got a bunch of great ideas on remodeling our kitchen. More importantly: they are giving FREE H1N1 nasal shots! It took less than five minutes and it was as easy as breathing through your nose.
TODAY’S POINT OF BALANCE: Two interesting articles from The New York Times I came across this week:
Rules Worth Following, for Everyone’s Sake: A definitely read on how to embrace healthy eating in this overprocessed food world that we live in. A few great tips from Michael Pollan, the author of “Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual”, “In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto” and “The Omnivore’s Dilemma”:
- “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”: Of course I love this one: I’m the girl who eats a two pound bag of frozen broccoli in three days.
- “Cooking for yourself is the only sure way to take back control of your diet from the food scientists and food processors.”: Even though I love to enjoy a meal out at a locally owned restaurant, I get much more enjoyment when cooking at home. Have you seen all of my pasta tosses?!
- “No snacks, no seconds, no sweets — except on days that begin with the letter S.”: For me, two out of three ain’t bad. I eat small meals every few hours, so I’m a fan of responsible snacking. However, I do like the idea of “free day” or two on the weekends – treat yourself well during the week so you can relax on the weekends.
Slimmer Doesn’t Always Mean Fitter: You CAN be too skinny for optimal body performance according to this article. I completely agree: when I was about five pounds lighter, I had no energy and couldn’t keep my workout schedule. Now, with a little bit extra on my body, I can keep up in a 70 minute kickboxing class or finish a training run.
I am off to prepare for my Super Bowl get together: a few friends, Hans and our brothers eating home-made pizzas and chili. You know there will be a post you can look forward to seeing this week!
