Motivate Me Day Five:
FORGET IT ALL
That’s right: throw everything you’ve learned out the window. and JUST BE. A healthy lifestyle is about enjoying the splurges while balancing them with smart “saves” along the way. Luckily, you’ve built a solid foundation to depend on. Even then, sometimes the bottom falls out. Here’s a little secret : I’m still learning myself how to embrace Tip Five :
In late August 2009, I was headed into a stressful time at work. I was exhausted ALL THE TIME. My workouts were becoming impossible to finish. My body was screaming at me: GIVE ME A BREAK! So I listened to it:
- I took a break from my usual workout routine. The only physical activity I allowed myself to do was walk my golden retriever around our neighborhood.
- I stopped counting calories. Instead, I listened to my body: I ate when I was hungry. I stopped when I was full.
- I also tried to get out of the “dieting” mentality. If I wanted a huge double scoop of ice cream from Honey Hut, I had it. And enjoyed it. And tried my best to forget about the guilt that I would have previously put upon myself.
It was difficult, but I remind myself that it took a long time to get to this point in my healthy lifestyle and that my “temple” was asking for a moment or two of calm. Moving forward, when I started working out again is around the time I started this blog. I needed an outlet in order to find a new form of stability. As I still deal with anxiety issues on a regular basis, I remember it’s all about “one day at a time” in all things. Sure you can slip up one day, but tomorrow is a chance to get back on track. The balance comes when you can accept life for what it is, as it is.
