Motivate Me Day Four:
FIND YOUR ROCK
Humans are creatures of habits. We need structure, stability and a routine to make us feel steady. I, especially, find this to be an important part of my weight loss.
As I mentioned earlier this week, I found a group fitness class that meets three times a week at the same times. In the class, I have a group of friends who offer support and encouragement as we work our way through each class. And I keep coming back each Monday, Thursday and Saturday because I know that me attending it regularly will help me reach my goals.
Not only did I find that kind of stability, I was lucky enough to have a very important person in my life as a solid foundation to start me on the path of fitness: my husband Hans.
Eight years ago when I decided enough was enough, Hans was the one to take this once plus sized girl to the gym at his college and showed her how to run the treadmill and how to use the weight machines in the right fashion. It was great to learn how to embrace my fitness goals with someone who was well informed (as he played sports throughout high school and college) and with someone with a GREAT DEAL OF PATIENCE.
So what is your rock? Your solid foundation to keep you going? Is it a workout buddy? A supportive spouse? Or simply tracking all of your accomplishments in a food journal or a workout calendar (as from this health.com article called “A Determined Dieter, a Calendar, and a 12-Pound Weight Loss”)? What is important: your support system needs to be supportive for when you have set backs, it can then inspire you to move forward.
