TODAY’S POINT OF BALANCE comes from Women’s Health magazine: check out this article about Sedentary Lifestyle Hazards: Your Body’s Biggest Enemy.
This article is NEAT – well, it’s actually all about NEAT, or daily non-exercise activity thermogenesis.
Don’t worry: I didn’t know what thermogenesis meant either.
The article tells us that it’s all about the energy you burn doing everything but exercise. So make sure to get up every once in awhile when you’re blogging about your day or attempting to get some data entry done at work. Every burst of energy helps!
…maybe I should have watched The Biggest Loser on a stationary bike!
A quick run down of today’s meals:
I started today with a personal blog-land inspired breakfast: SAVORY SPICY OATS: don’t knock it til you try it! You’ll need:
- 1/2 a Babybel cheese wheel
- 2/3 cups of oats
- garlic powder
- red pepper flakes
- Pam cooking spray
- one jumbo egg
I place the oats and cheese in a microwave friendly bowl. After heating up some water in the tea kettle, I pour water on the oats & cheese until I reach the desired consistency. Sprinkle generously with the seasonings, then I throw the bowl in the microwave for two minutes. Meanwhile, I spray a pan with some Pam, crack one egg in the pan, sprinkle away with the seasonings until the egg white is set, but the yolk is still runny:
I love then breaking the yolk and getting it all up in the oats/cheese mix. This breakfast is one of my favorites. I highly recommend you try it when you can’t decide between a bowl of oatmeal and some eggs!
Lunch was an old standby: wrap and soup combo:
I think I need to buy stock in Trader Joe’s as I will easily keep them in business all winter long with consumption of their low sodium soups! I indulged a bit with feta cheese in both the wrap and the soup – but it was definitely tasty!
On my way to a late afternoon appointment, I enjoyed my usual Starbucks order (grande Pike Place with shot of sugar free hazelnut & non-fat milk) and a gala apple:
For dinner: we had some chicken to make so we kept it simple and had a great dinner salad with chicken from the grill:
Under all that chicken and mozzarella cheese, you’ll find spinach, tomato, carrot, green pepper and corn. Another Trader Joe’s favorite, I topped it with their asian soy vinaigrette salad dressing. Post dinner, I did satisfy my sweet tooth with a small chunk of a pumpkin walnut chocolate chip cookie from my friend Mary. I definitely need to steal that recipe from her soon!
Knowing my dinner, I’m sure I’ll be snacking it up around 10PM – at least I have plenty to do between now and then!
